outfits and outings

Ive been more than a little busy this past week, but here's a quick update: starting with the events farthest away, this is from earlier in the week...

gap dress, vintage vest, vintage santana ankle boots.

sometimes we go places and eat soup and bagels...(that's maureen)
my friend came home visiting from college and as the local pancake house was obscenely crowded we settled on driving about 30minutes farther and going to paneras for breakfast (although we ate more like it was lunch.)

The latest outfit that I haven't posted: going back to my bohemian roots for a gorgeous warm day in april.
H&M maxi dress, H&M cardigan, target sandals

Jewlry: f21 gold locket, vintage owl pendant, and vintage beaded necklace.

my break time, and a shot of the braided detail in my hair.

if you havent heard this song, listen, its my new favorite.

Meet Cassaela

I'm starting a series of featuring other bloggers, artists, and musicians and I thought I'd start it off with a feature on fellow blogger Cassaela from Undercover Dress-up Lover.
So lets get to know this girl with a gorgeous style a little bit better.

What about blogging drew you to it? I was a complete tomboy when I was younger; even now, I feel the shadow of something like shame, that I care so much about something as trivial as clothes. Blogging is an anonymous outlet I can pour my superficiality into, and its also a nice little place for posting up photos from day trips. Eventually I hope to interview some of my favorites people on lookbook.nu to get to know them a little better, because they're real people and real people are interesting.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about you?
That's an interesting question. I'd hope that everyone knew nothing about me, so I'd have a clean slate upon which I could make my own drawing of myself. Sometimes prejudice and snap stereotyping gets in the way.

Was there ever a definitive event in your life that you feel shaped who you turned out to be?
In my short life, I've had the fortune to have never suffered any physical or emotional disaster, so what's shaped me is how kind life has been to me so far. I'm still waiting for it to turn around and be a bitch and make me suffer, but I don't feel like I know life yet.

What's one thing you love about fashion?
People say not to judge a book by its cover, but we all do anyway because the cover is one of the first impressions we get of something. In reality I'm a exceedingly unremarkable nerdy nerd, but through fashion I can fool myself and others into thinking I'm quite interesting, really. Superficial though it is, clothes is a variable that, if I can control it to control others, I will.

What advice would you give someone on building a personal style?
Ensure your first priority is your own satisfaction when you look in the mirror, knowing that you look fabulous - validation from others will only make you so happy. Don't feel the need to be restrained by labels or set 'styles'. Finally, fashion is not respiration or sensitivity or any of the essential characteristics of life, so don't let it be the death of you.

what inspires you the most in life?
I think what's most inspiring to me are my own family and peers - my best friends in my little niche in the community. I try to surround myself with people who, whether artistically, musically, academically or simply spiritually, are something special, so I've people to aspire to be like.

Does music or art have any impact on the way you dress?
Though I enjoy both of those things, I don't think they really directly impact the way I dress. Perhaps I do have the tendency to compose outfits like one would think about the composition of art, like balancing colours and textures, but I'm sure everyone does that. If I have a song going round in my head, I may put on something to match the genre of that song, like if it's country, I'll be in dresses and flowers, or if it's pop, I'll be in colourful graphic t-shirts and shorts.

Who takes your pictures and how do you compose the shots?
The photos of my looks are purely for LB purposes and have no artistic merit whatsoever. I am many things, but photographer is not one of them. When my garden's in sunshine, I'll take out my dad's camera and tripod and self-timer a massive bunch of full-body shots and hope a couple of them are unawkward enough to use!

One of Cassaela's gorgeous design illustrations inspired by Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and a photo she took of St. Paul's Cathedral. Thanks to Cassaela for answering my questions and letting me share her blog with all of you. I love her site and hope you all will too.

'rock' around the clock

So I'm sitting in kitchen having a late night snack of apple cider and animal crackers (I'm to lazy to find something wholesome) and listening to my super awake brain run an endless chatter of thoughts through my head (three consecutive hours of painting did not quiet it up one decibal.) On a whim, I decided to take a stop at urban outfitter's blog, a site that I always enjoy.

Now to backtrack: earlier in the day a friend and I were talking about jewelry and I mentioned that I really wanted to get back into the swing of wearing necklaces. More specifically, I really wanted to start wearing simple yet statement pendants, preferably ones that look like they never would have been put on a necklace, and that are bright, colorful and on a long simple chain.

Well. Much to my delighted surprise but what did I see upon the page loading: a large picture(with two more beneath it) of a large bright pendant. Simple chain. Very unique.

the image on the left was one of the ones featured on UO 's site, and the white one I took out of the maker's store. The white and the peachy pink are definitly my favorite. I love the way the darker color of the wood is starting to show through them.

These pieces are so unique and one of a kind I cant help being positively smitten.

I only drink tea when it's flavor is lemon...

Spring is in the air and I am getting antsy. Its still a little chilly somedays but I have foresaken my jackets in favor of sweaters! An alternative that keeps me warm but makes me think its not as cold.

My jeans are thrift, as is my pink and white stripped button down. The heels are target, and the sweater was a gift. I think its from Scotland (maybe Ireland?) I'm not entirely sure but I love the tortoise shell buttons, and apparently all the cable knits mean something but I have forgotten what over time. My jewelry and sunglasses and belt (ECHO) are both vintage, like almost always.

Last I come to my headband. I made it, actually and will making more similar and different to it that I will be selling! My shop should be up soon with a few different styles.

Yellow makes me infinitely happy.

where did all the shadow people go

Spring is in the air, I can practically taste my impending graduation, and there's more and more to do to prepare for college next year. Lets come already summer, I am tired of waiting.

Guess skirt, and H&M top, if you look close you can see the really pretty lace detail around the neck.

My saddle shoes are from candies, and my watch is Urban Outfitters. I made my own headband. I'm planning to open my etsy shop this week for my designs. There willll be more headbands, and some clothes/bags as it progresses, hope you visit!

Ps. my post title comes from one of the most amazing songs ever written, shadow people by Dr. Dog. Their music inspires and influences me in more ways than I can count, enjoy...

Museum Adventure

Follow my blog with Bloglovin The other day I was in Philly to go to the Museum of Art. I spent hours wandering through the main exhibits and still didn't make it through everything. I ran out of time before I could get over to the second building for the textile show, so I guess I'll just have to go back again!

art museum line

I am a sucker for views, especially of cities. I love city skylines with their buildings and gray steel and concrete. All three pictures above I took from one of the windows on the museum's second floor. The line waiting to get in. The flag against the city. And the sculptures on the roof.

Because I'm an artist and I design clothes, my eye is always captured by textures and patterns: Swirls on a door, lines in a piece designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and studs on the floor of a fireplace.

Now, here are some of the extra-ordinary objects I found on my excursion.....

a green glass grapes key chain, and some carved wooden kitchen spoons.

A little more odd, the one on the left is of these bunny like objects that rattled when I shook one. It sounded like they were filled with something, but I have no clue what, and the lable was no help! they were by the spoons, but I'm not sure if their food related at all. The red ear is a key chain! the key ring goes through the earlobe, so your keys turn into the earring, nifty!

and last but not least for my museum gift shop extra-ordinary objects....

A fire breathing cardboard dragon, and some neat shapes my mom found in a book on making decorations.
